Calvin Klein has issued a statement of regret over analysis that one of its ongoing promotions, highlighting model Bella Hadid and a robot, was a case of “queerbaiting.”
Calvin Klein recognized that including Hadid, “somebody who distinguishes as hetero,” in a “same-sex kiss” could be translated as queerbaiting, an exploitative tactic used to prod an eccentric sentiment to attract watchers with no goal of completely creating or speaking to LGBTQ individuals and relationships.
“As an organization with a longstanding convention of supporting for LGBTQ+ rights, it was surely not our goal to distort the LGBTQ+ people group. We earnestly lament any offense we caused,” the announcement said.
The brand likewise noted in its explanation that the video was expected to “advance opportunity of articulation for a wide scope of characters, including a range of sex and sexual identities.”
A delegate for Hadid didn’t promptly restore HuffPost’s solicitation for comment.
